Mrs. Opal Walsh Sharp, 86, of Winston-Salem passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Durham Regional Medical Center. She was born September 26, 1924 in Forsyth County to James Turner Walsh, Sr. and Effie Church Walsh. Mrs. Sharp was a graduate of Gray High School in 1941. She retired from Western Union after 36 years of service in 1977 and Ed Kelly's following 13 years in service in 1990. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church for 60 years. She treasured and valued her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John William Sharp; two brothers, Paul and Clauide; and sister, Genevia. Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Orban and husband Richard of Raleigh; a brother, James Turner Walsh, Jr. of Winston-Salem; nephews, Richard Walsh and wife Nancy and family of New London, Ken Walsh and wife Margo and family of Granbury, TX, and Gene Walsh and wife Beverly and family of Richmond, VA., Donald and wife Bess and family of Houston, TX. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 18 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. J. Wilson Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
