A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at New Philadelphia Moravian Church with Dr. Worth Green officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Opal had a great love of family, friends and her home of more than sixty years. She enjoyed playing bridge having played with the same bridge club for more than fifty years. Family vacations to Surfside Beach and travels to worldwide destinations played an important part of her life. She was a member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church and the Red Hats Society. Opal was a gifted seamstress, making clothes for herself and her girls. Quilting became a big part of her life after the passing of her beloved husband. Opal was well-known as a snazzy dresser and continued to shop even though it was hard for her to do so in the later years. She loved mornings reading the Winston-Salem Journal along with her coffee. Opal worked for McLean Trucking Company and was a long-time employee for the ASCS office for the Tobacco Market. Opal was known as independent, resilient and sharp. Her cute sense of humor and smile were ever present. She continued to have meaningful discussions with grandsons even in the days before her death. A special thanks to her wonderful neighbors Beth and Dan Bourland and Clyde Dula (deceased), and caregivers, Catherine, Karen, Brenda and Sue. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to New Philadelphia Funtastics Fund, 4440 Country Club Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27104, Forsyth Piecers & Quilters Guild, P.O.
