Opal Dancy Blevins

Mrs. Opal Sue Dancy Blevins, 90, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at Forsyth Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Blevins was born on September 15, 1925, in North Wilkesboro, NC to the late James Franklin Dancy and Rita Craven Dancy Via. Mrs. Blevins was a charter member of Chatham Heights Baptist Church in Martinsville, VA and was currently a member of Ardmore Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. In addition to her parents, Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dallas Blevins; one sister, Lorene Dancy Holt; and a granddaughter, Angela Sue Wright. Mrs. Blevins is survived by three daughters, Betty Blevins Wright, Brenda Blevins Lemons and husband, Charles, and Bonnie Marie Blevins and fiancé, Rich Mudridge, all of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Rev. Robert Lemons and wife, Emily of Clemmons, NC, Megan McClellan Farley and husband, Joe of St. Louis, MO, and Jonathan R. McClellan of Winston-Salem; three great-grandchildren, Bobby and Wesley Lemons of Clemmons, NC and Lauren Farley of St. Louis, MO; one brother, Roscoe F. Dancy and wife, Midge of Myrtle Beach, SC; one step-grandson, Michael R. Blevins of High Point, NC; two nieces, Janet and Cheryl; four great-nieces, Jeanette, Ashley, Jenny, and Kylie; and two great-nephews, Jacob and Trent. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, January 3, 2016, at Chatham Heights Baptist Church with Rev. George Hearn, Dr. Michael Hatfield, Rev. Robert Lemons and Rev. David Fitzgerald officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Southfork Assisted Living and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit 8th floor at Forsyth Medical Center for the exceptional care they provided to Opal. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Chatham Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, 1235 Chatham Rd., Martinsville, VA 24112.
