Opa Yvonne Lashmit Masten

Mrs. Opa Yvonne Lashmit Masten, 84, of Winston-Salem passed away Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Bermuda Village. She was born in Davie County on November 8, 1927 to Hubert Alexander and Francis Beatrice Miller Lashmit. Mrs. Masten was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for the past 45 years. She was the owner and operator of West View Beauty Salon for many years. After selling her salon, she continued to work at her leisure for many other salons. She enjoyed knitting and working in her yard. Mrs. Masten enjoyed helping others, and will be remembered for her caring spirit. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence Edward Masten; a brother Robert Gray; and a nephew Neal Chastain. Mrs. Masten is survived by two sisters, June Booth and husband Eddie of Charlotte, and Frankie Strumfels and husband Les of Winston-Salem; five nieces and nephews, Lisa Clark and husband Jonathan of Winterville; Amy Violette and husband Judson of Concord; Alan Chastain of Springhill, TN, Alex Lashmit, and Billy Lashmit and wife Deborah, all of Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel with Dr. Gary Chapman and Chaplain Fred Moretz officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Monday at the funeral home.
