Ollie Linwood Wood

Mr. Ollie Linwood Wood, 80, of Winston-Salem, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Greene County to Ollie and Viola Wood, one of nine children. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and later attended Michigan State. Mr. Wood worked with Colonial Stores for 20 years and continued his career with US Dairymen, Inc. for the following 23 years. He was an active member of Konnoak Hills United Methodist Church, and served his church loyally in various capacities over the past 45 years. Ollie was also a past member of the Konnoak Hills Lions Club. Ollie is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Lou Skinner Wood of the home; one son Mike Wood and wife Joy of Kingsport, TN; two daughters, Terry Combs and husband, Kevin and Mary Beth Wood and companion, William Cox of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Amanda Sloan and husband, Joseph, Eric Wood and wife, Sunny, Ryan Wood and fianc郩e, Katie Enterline and Kaleb Combs; one great grandchild, Levi Sloan; one brother, B. F. Wood and three sisters, Joyce Hardy, Margaret Stroud and Shirley Steppe all of Farmville. Papa Wood will always be loved and remembered for his devotion to his family, his generous spirit and his kindness to everyone he met. The funeral service will be conducted Sunday, January 25 at 2:00 PM at Konnoak Hills United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Sherrill officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. Visitation and reception will be at Konnoak Hills United Methodist Church following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Konnoak Hills United Methodist Church Building Fund, 430 Weisner Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27127 or Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
