Ollie Kiger Masencup

Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and neighbor, Ollie Kiger Masencup, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born September 16, 1925 in Forsyth County to Arthur Raleigh Kiger, Sr. and Mary Jane Weisner Kiger. Mrs. Masencup was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Mineral Springs High School and was employed with Hanes Hosiery early in life. She created a sense of family and neighborhood for all those who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Worth Edward Masencup, Sr.; four brothers, Hugh, James, Everett, and Raleigh; and a son, William Ott Masencup. Surviving are three daughters, Janet Carithers (Steve) of Rural Hall, Donna Lewis (Steve) of Kernersville, and Ginger M. McLean of Palmyra, PA; one son, Eddie Masencup (Jan Sawyer) of Winston-Salem; a special niece and caregiver, Shirley Winfree of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Allison, Morgan and Will; two step grandchildren, Michael and Alex; three additional step grandchildren; eleven step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 30 at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 29 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 4265 Ebert Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27127 or Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to express their special thanks to all Mrs. Masencup's friends and neighbors, staff of Forsyth Medical Center 6th Floor, and Hospice for their care during her illness.
