Ollie Thomas Harrell

SUMMERFIELD - Mr. Ollie Thomas ""Grandpus"" Harrell, 89, left us on Saturday, January 2, 2016 to be reunited with his wife, Rhumell, who passed away on November 19, 2015. You could say he died of a broken heart after 69-1/2 years of marriage. Ollie was born on July 12, 1926 in Guilford County to Clemmie and Early Harrell. Grandpus was an active member of Northwest Baptist Church for over 67 years, having served on many committees. He retired from Charles T. Brown Truck Lines. Grandpus was a handy man, having built his house and helping build several more. He also loved beekeeping. Grandpus traveled all over the US with his wife by his side and had a campsite for 26 years at Briarcliff at Myrtle Beach. He was dedicated to his family and friends, holding fast to the promise he made to his mother to keep gathering the family together as often as possible.
In addition to his parents, Ollie was preceded in death by his wife, Rhumell Mounce Harrell; a brother, Roy Harrell; and two sisters, Virginia West and Carlene Purgason.
Surviving are his a son, Michael Thomas Harrell and wife, Kay of Oak Ridge; granddaughter, Tammy H. Shearer and husband, Curt and their children, Brandon and Cassidy of Summerfield; grandsons, Criss Thomas Harrell and wife, Lindsay and their children, Chad, Chase, and Caleb of Stokesdale, Scott Stewart Harrell and Hailey Ayers and daughter, Amelia; two brothers, Raymond and Clifton Harrell; and four sisters, Edna Anderson, Margaret Simmons, Peggy Walker and Evelyn Cartwright.
A Funeral Service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Northwest Baptist Church in Greensboro with Rev. Rick Hamann officiating. Burial will follow in Westminster Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, January 4, 2016 at the church. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
