Mr. Olin Murphy Mendenhall, 86, of Midway passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at his home. He was born September 5, 1923 in Davidson County to Charles Felix and Hattie Murphy Mendenhall. Mr. Mendenhall was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army where he saw the aftermath of the bomb on Nagasaki. He was a member of Parkland Church and was retired from Hamricks Clothing Store. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Regina Wilson; granddaughter, Tracy Wilson; four sisters; and three brothers. Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Virginia Long Mendenhall; a son, Dwain Mendenhall and wife Kathy of Midway; seven grandchildren, Melanie, Annie, Amy, Josh, Chad, Kelly and Jeremy; six great grandchildren; and a brother, Cleo ""Pete"" Mendenhall and wife Bernice. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 22 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Steve Tilley officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 21 at the funeral home. A special thanks to the V.A. And Right at Home for the care they have given Mr. Mendenhall.
