Olene Holcomb Swanson

Mrs. Olene Holcomb Swanson, 89, of Winston-Salem died Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born September 23, 1925 in Wilkes County, the daughter of the late Forest Palmer and Nora Scott Holcomb. Mrs. Swanson was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Trap Hill High School and earned a degree from Draughon's Business College. She retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with 15 years of service and Hunter Publishing Company with 20 years of service. She was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. She loved all sports but still had time to knit, crochet, quilt and work in her flower garden. Survivors include her beloved husband of 64 years, James ""Jim"" Swanson, a WW II veteran and D Day survivor of the home; one son, James Fred Swanson, Jr. and wife Beckie of Winston-Salem; one daughter, Linda Swanson Johnson and husband, Joe of Statesville; five grandchildren, Kim Cummings, Jeff Henderson and wife Wendy and her daughters, Crystal and Alecia, Natalie Tamer and husband, Jeremy, Jake Swanson and Matt Swanson; four great grandchildren, Colt and Nora Tamer and Carma and Justice Cummings; one sisters, Frances DiMaria and husband, Charlie of Greensboro; three special sisters-in-law, Frances Lentz, Betty Logan and Jo Ann Easter of Winston-Salem; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Norman E. Jones, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
