Odessa Marler Starling Lindsay

Odessa Marler Starling Lindsay, 89, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Odessa was born October 20, 1920 to Henry Franklin Marler and Cora Apperson Marler. She was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem and retired from Carolina Narrow Fabric Tape Mill and Thalheimers Department Store after many years of serving her customers. In addition to Odessa's parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Thurmond Elmore Starling, Sr., and Horace Avery (Jack) Smith; grandson, Jeffery Martin Starling, and seven siblings. Odessa leaves to cherish her memory a loving husband of two years, Charlie Lindsay of the home; son, Thurmond Elmore Starling, Jr. and wife Karolyn of High Point; grandsons, Todd Starling of Winston-Salem, and Dr. Eric Miller and wife Holly of New Kent, VA; sister, Geraldine (Gerry) Woosley of Winston-Salem; brother, Arzie Marler of Pfafftown; and many nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate Odessa's life will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Gary Byrum officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
