O'Max Gardner Horne, 82, of Clemmons, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born December 7, 1930 in Harmony, NC to the late Wingate Mills and Matte Nellie Horne. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Robert; and one sister, Muriel Coules. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Faye Edmonds Horne; a son, Edmund Horne (Penny); a daughter, Nanette Perry (Mark); five grandchildren, John Horne (Kerri), James Horne, Aaron, Benjamin and Victoria Perry; one sister, Pansy Blevins; along with several nieces, nephews and other family. O'Max was the owner of Clemmons Center Barber Shop from 1960 to 1974. In 1974 he started Horne's Custom Gutter Service from which he worked until his retirement in 2008. He was an active and faithful member at Salem Baptist Church and was a member of the choir for over 50 years. He also served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and greeter. Mr. Horne served in the US Marine Corps. He later enjoyed working with the Marine Corps League in several different capacities. But, what he enjoyed most was the design of and distributing of plaques to the families of Marines upon their passing, along with holding the job of Judge Advocate and helped with bingo at Salisbury Veteran Hospital and Toys for Tots. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church with Dr. Howard Wilburn and the Rev. Floyd Boles officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons by the Rev. Christopher Burcham with a Marine Corps Honor Guard. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the service. The family will receive friends at other times at the home of Edmund and Penny Horne. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Marine Corps League, P.O. Box 30344, Winston-Salem, NC 27130 or Salem Baptist Church, 429 S. Broad Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
