Numa James Thomas, 95, passed away on June 21, 2013, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Son of James K. P. Thomas and Minnie Sink Thomas, he was born on October 8, 1917, at the family farm near Midway, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Charlie, John, Glenn, Roby, and Woodrow, and his sister, Pauline. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941 and served as a radio officer in the European theater. He received a Bronze Star for service behind enemy lines during the Battle of Bulge. On March 15, 1943, he married Marguerite Marie Reavis of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She preceded him in death on May 4, 2005. He is survived by son David James Thomas and his wife Melinda Beck of Chapel Hill and grandsons Walker James Thomas who is serving in the Peace Corps in Madagascar and Asher Gage Thomas of Chapel Hill. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces of whom he was very proud. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 28, 2013 at Salem Moravian Graveyard.
