Mr. Norton Henry Truesdale, 87, of Kernersville passed away Sunday, January 25, 2009 at Bradford Village West. He was born November 16, 1921 in Lancaster, SC to Norton Benjamin and Alma Powers Truesdale. Mr. Truesdale was a Major in the 82nd Airborne for 21 years serving during WWII in Europe and North Africa. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He was an avid gardener; a volunteer for Disabled American Veterans; and a member of the Ft. Bragg Masonic Lodge #667. After selling their home, Mr. and Mrs. Truesdale moved in with their son and daughter-in-law who were their caregivers before his moving to Bradford Village West. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jackie Sue Wright; a stepson, Wade Yarbrough; and two brothers, Wade Truesdale and DeWitt Truesdale. Surviving are his wife, Myrtle (Jean) Truesdale; a daughter, Dawn Royston of Maryland; two stepdaughters, Carol Anne Atkins and Gaynell Slater, both of Lewisville; two sons, Murray Truesdale (Stevie) of Greenville, NC and Vernon Truesdale of Tobaccoville; a stepson, Timothy Yarbrough of Kernersville; a sister, Beatrice Westbrook of Charlotte; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 30 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Randy Whitman officiating with military and Masonic rites. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to VFW District 11 Memorial Honor Guard, C/O VFW Post 9010, P.O.
