Mr. Norman Gray Overby, Sr, 78, of Advance, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at his home. He was born March 8, 1931 in Guilford County to Rosco Lee and Lottie Fowler Overby. Mr. Overby attended Davie Baptist Church and was a self employed truck driver. He was also a diesel mechanic. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Patricia Marie Overby and two brothers, Thomas and Ralph Overby. Surviving him is his wife, Apacha ""Pat"" Wall Overby of the home; five children, Norma Pettyjohn and husband Jim of Winston-Salem, Bobbi Shell and husband Barry of Advance, Norman Gray Overby, Jr and wife Annette of Winston-Salem, Ronnie Overby and wife Billie of Lexington and April Todd and husband Doug of Advance; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; a brother Colin ""Boddie"" Overby and wife Betty of Winston-Salem; a sister Betty Jean Smith of King; three sisters-in-law, Grace Overby, Marie Moran and Lee Ellen Wall and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 12, 2009 at Davie Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Caudle and Rev. Erick Goff officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 P.M. Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.
