Walkertown -Norman Lee Folds, 80, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at his home. He was born January 3, 1929 in Forsyth Co. to the late Albert M Folds, Sr. and Laura Jones Folds. Mr. Folds was an active member of Gospel Light Baptist Church since 1964. He was a former teacher of the Men's Companion Class and worked in it's bus ministry for over 40 years, serving as the ministry's Eastern Division Leader. Norman served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict on the USS Cape Esperance. During his service in the Navy, he made 36 voyages to and from Japan transporting planes. He retired after 38 years of service with Gardens of Memory, Inc as Sales Manager. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert M. Folds, Jr. and Oliver Fletcher Folds. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Doris ""Bid"" Fulp Folds; two daughters, Ronda F. Beck and husband Jim, Gena F. Callahan and husband David; two granddaughters, Audra C. Locklear and husband Gary, Anna-Carrie Beck; and one brother, Dr. William F. Folds and wife Glenda. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Roberson, Rev. Frank Shumate, Rev. Tim Hicks officiating. Entombment will follow in Gardens of Memory Mausoleum in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 6-9 pm Friday, September 4, 2009 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Ed Hill, Dr. Gregory Greenwood and Hospice and Palliative CareCenter of Winston Salem for all the care that was given to Norman.
