CHRISTENSEN - Winston-Salem Mr. Norman Richard Christensen passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, November 18, 2009. He was born in Hutchinson, MN on November 5, 1941, the son of Alvin Harold Christensen and Viola Nelson Christensen. Mr. Christensen retired from NCS/Pearson with 37 years of service as a field engineer. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of Reynolda Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed gardening, old-time bluegrass music, calling in to WSJS and talking with his family and buddies on the phone. ""Grampy"" especially loved making S'mores with his grandchildren and giving them tractor rides. Mr. Christensen was a generous man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a great husband, father and grandfather; but a greater man. Preceding him in death were his father; and two brothers, Nathan and Vernon Christensen. Surviving are his devoted wife of 43 years, Linda Christensen; six children, Lea Church-Brendle (Gray), Ellen Caldwell (Eric), Richard Christensen (Julie), Marcia Boyles (Jody), Bethanie Barnes (Jon), and Brad Christensen; ten grandchildren, Madison and Mason Church, Avery, Natalie and Hudson Brendle, Hannah and Camden Caldwell, Hayley, Jack and Landry Boyles. Also surviving are his mother; two sisters, Kathryn Hantge (Everette) and Ardys Euerle (Burt); one brother, Kenneth Christensen (Pam); and his beloved dogs, Finley, Chester and Brownie. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 23 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Dr. Richard Little officiating. Burial will follow at Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, November 22 at the funeral home.
