Mrs. Norma “Starr” Templeton, 93, of Winston-Salem, peacefully passed away and entered the arms of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning, February 18, 2025, at her home with her loving family surrounding her. Mrs. Templeton was born on September 15, 1931, in Forsyth County to the late Mrs. Arietta Dease Patterson.
Starr was a lifelong, dedicated member of Pine Chapel Moravian Church. She married John Franklin “Frank” Templeton in December of 1953 and together they built a life full of love and memories. They had two children, Richard “Rick” Templeton and Keith Templeton. There was nothing Starr loved more than being a mother to her sons and a loving wife to her husband. Starr felt privileged to be a stay-at-home wife and mother, she served many roles in the home. She was always willing to do whatever it took to maintain a happy and strong household. Starr realized that she could hold even more love in her heart for her family after her four precious grandchildren arrived.
A “Grandma Starr” to them, she had a love that knew no bounds for her grandchildren, whatever they may need, she was always there to provide. She had a taste for crafting. Starr loved to crochet, she was a seamstress in her young age and her fondness of sewing, knitting and crocheting grew to where she was able to gift her pieces to those around her. Along with crafting, she was known for her wonderful cooking and baking. At home and at church, everyone looked forward to her dishes, especially her “Three-hundred-dollar chocolate cake” and her Pecan Tarts, Starr would want you to know it was pronounced “pee-can” here in the south.
Above all, she loved the Lord, and her family is comforted knowing Jesus welcomed her into heaven with open arms and she is free at last of all her pain. Surviving her are her two sons, Rick Templeton (Pam) and Keith Templeton (Shannon); 4 grandchildren, Heather (Zach), Christopher (Emily), Carly (Chris), and Eric (Camry); 14 great-grandchildren; and a special companion for nine years, Jimmy Sink. In addition to her mother, Starr was preceded in passing by her, stepfather, Marvin Johnson; her soulmate, Frank Templeton; and two brothers, Carlton and Buddy Clements.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 12:00pm at Pine Chapel Moravian Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. There will be a private family committal at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Jimmy Sink for his loyal care and genuine love to Starr for the last nine years of her life. As well as Trellis Hospice Care for the care given to Starr.
Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Templeton.
