Rev. Mrs. Norma Jean Teague Jarvis of Clemmons, NC, passed away peacefully May 22, 2016 after an extended illness. She was born in Forsyth County, NC, on August 9, 1933 to Nellie Walker Teague and Newbern J Teague. Her son, Kenneth M Black and sister Dolores Shoaf preceded her in death. She is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years Rev. Charles R ""Chuck"" Jarvis; sister, Peggy Davis of East Bend, NC; daughters, Beverly B Edwards of Winston-Salem and Carol B Leamon (Michael) of
Bermuda Run; son Charles ""Buddy"" Black (Maggie) of Lake Worth, FL. She was beloved ""Mimi"" to her grandchildren Kacie Shaver, Stephanie Troche (Steven), Lisa Hunt (Bryan), Lauren Mauldin (James), Chance Black and Kristen Black and ten great-grandchildren: Cain, Brynn, Jude and McKenzie Black, Hayden Martin, Abagail Weaver, Salem and Scarlett Mauldin, and Sophie and Xander Troche; sister in law Millie (Tom) Frazier; stepson James Jarvis of Lake Worth, FL and his son Tyler Thompson. Her adopted granddaughter Maria Soble (Joshua) and many loved nieces and nephews.
Norma was a child of the Waughtown area of Winston-Salem and attended Pine Chapel Moravian Church where she developed her love of God and music, singing in the choir and playing in the church band. She attended local schools and worked as a dental and medical assistant most of her career. She was the HR director of Larkin Community Hospital at the time of her retirement. She maintained her love of music throughout her life, teaching herself to play the piano and organ. After retirement she and Chuck returned to school, became Church of God ordained ministers and spread the Word through a music ministry in the prisons of Salisbury, NC.
Norma was an avid reader who loved learning. She loved games, transitioned easily to electronic versions and mastered them on her Ipad. She will be greatly missed by her extended Facebook family and friends who kept her in touch with the world during her extended illness. She was a warrior with a loving spirit and impressive inner strength which earned her much admiration from doctors, caregivers and anyone who heard her story. She and her family received great comfort from Chuck's daily presence and the loving care he gave to her during her illness.
Visitation will be Friday, May 27, 2016 at 1:00 pm; funeral service at 2:00 pm, Hayworth Miller Silas Creek, Winston-Salem by Rev. J Dwight Cartner. Burial will be at Parklawn Memorial Park in Winston-Salem with a reception following.
