Norma Edwards Gentry

Norma Edwards Gentry, 84, of King, North Carolina died Thursday, February 2, 2017. She was the daughter of Homer and Kate Westmoreland Edwards. She was preceded in death by husband, Ira Gaston Gentry, Jr, sister, Doris Tuttle and brother, Wayne Edwards. She is survived by daughters Jennifer and Betsy Gentry, son Dudley (Kim) and cherished grandsons Jack Spencer and Davis Gentry, beloved sister, Karen Newsome and many nieces and nephews. In addition to being a lifetime member of Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church, Norma was active in local politics, 4-H, the North Carolina Angus Association, Stokes/Rockingham Genealogy Society and the Stokes Historical Society. She was proud to be a farmer and was farm-to table before farm-to-table was hip. Norma delighted in mowing, beating the deer to the apple trees each morning, yard sale treasures, photography and sharing her famous sugar and molasses cookies with the very luckiest. Norma was a person of quiet strength and an advocate for the marginalized. She minimized her accomplishments and would be unhappy with all this attention! Thanks to all who participated in her journey. A graveside service will be held at Chestnut Grove UMC, King, NC on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at 2PM. Memorials may be made to Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church, 1024 Volunteer Road, King, NC 27021.
