Nora Shively, 57, passed away unexpectedly at her home on November 12, 2023. Nora was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Patricia McArdle Shively. She is survived by her brother Ed (Carolyn) Shively (Ballston Lake, NY), sisters Sr. Nancy Shively, osc (Greenville, SC), Karen DeWind (Cedar Grove, TN), Sr. Elizabeth Therese Shively, OCD (Alhambra, CA), Peggy Culkin (Greensboro, NC), nieces and nephews: Eddie (Kelcie) Shively, Nicole Shively, Tommy Culkin, Maggie Culkin, Meg (Paul) McClung, Katherine (Jorge) Gomez and several grandnieces and grand nephews and her beloved Sweet Pea.
Nora was a full of fun and loving joy person who lived a very full life from playing flute for band and championship basketball team in high school, to earning a Master’s degree in cultural anthropology, volunteering for Covenant House in NYC and Guatemala at an orphanage for homeless children, to pioneering a center for people affected by AIDS in the 80s, to working in grants administration for medical research funding for people with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Greensboro Urban Ministry, Redemption Hill Church or Hopeway Rehabilitation Service in Charlotte, NC.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 18 from 1-3 p.m. at Redemption Hill Church (400 Harvey Street, Winston-Salem, NC.) immediately followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m. Arrangements made at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
