Niel Andrew Hester

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Niel Hester, 50, a beloved father, son, brother and friend, who left us too soon on November 1, 2024.

Niel was born on April 9, 1974, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He resided in Hampton, Virginia, and graduated from Denbigh High School in 1992.

Niel was full of life, love and laughter, to know him was to love him. He was the most loving father and adored his children and family more than life itself. He enjoyed playing cards, poker, fishing and hanging out with his dog. Niel was also a diehard UNC Tarheels, Washington Commanders/Redskins and New York Yankees fan. His heart was big and he inspired others to enjoy the simple, little things in life.

Niel is preceded in death by his mother, Linda Hester; and grandparents Robert and Lillie Clodfelter, and Jack and Sylvia Hester; cousin Michael Hester and Loki, his loyal German Shepherd.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Nicholas Hester (Nick) and daughter, Alexis Stiffler (Lexi), the mother of his children, Erica Hester, his father, Jay Hester (Phyllis), his brothers Jason Hester (Diane) and Brian Hester (Lori), his nieces Sarah Hester (Kori), Mackenzie Hester, Lexie Hester, Abby Hester, Krista Hester and Esther Levinson, his nephews Blake Burch (Enxhi), Cooper Gilmore and Joey Moon, plus many other family members including aunts, uncles, cousins and his high spirited puppy, Thor.

We invite all who knew Niel to join us for the visitation on Wednesday, November 6th, 2024, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 12893 Jefferson Avenue, Newport News, Virginia, 23608.

Family and friends are also welcome attend the burial service on Friday, November 8th, 2024, at 2:00pm at Waughtown Cemetery in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your local animal shelter or rescue facility.
