Nicholas “Nick” Andrew Salling, beloved son, friend, nephew, cousin and grandson, passed away unexpectedly on December 31, 2021 at the age of 22 surrounded by family and friends at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.
Nick was born August 10, 1999, in Forsyth County to Catherine McCain Salling and Daniel John Salling.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandmothers, Margaret McCain and Mary Salling; aunts, Debbie Raulerson (Mark) and Susan Stafford; uncles, Joe Salling (Melanie), Chris McCain and John McCain; and cousins, Cody and Jacob Raulerson, Megan and Macy Salling, and Hannah and Lucas Stafford. Nick was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Dr. Frank McCain and Donald Salling.
Nick graduated from Mt. Tabor High School in 2017. He earned his Associate Degree in Engineering from Forsyth Technical Community College with the plan of applying to NC State University for Fall 2022 to earn his Bachelor of Engineering degree.
Nick was an avid automotive enthusiast, a passion that he gladly shared with all. His first car, a 1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse, he acquired when he was nearly 14 years old. He spent two years getting it perfected for the road. After which, he had six more cars, each needing the various skills he learned along the way from auto shop class and his father.
Nick learned guitar through professional lessons and self-teaching, never had to ask him to practice, he would play every day. During family get-togethers he would often play with his uncles John and Chris.
He loved the beach, and he went often. It was either a family trip or one of his friend's family would invite him along, and he was very blessed to spend so much time there.
He loved going on adventures, listening to music, playing the guitar, and driving his Miata convertible. Nick was devoted to family, a great friend, and often surrounded by those he cared about most. His dog, an energetic, crazy Maltese named Indy, will miss him terribly. They were inseparable, and Indy loved going for a run with Nick. He was known for his laidback demeanor, gentle soul, and his fun-loving humor and personality. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all that knew him.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday January 8, 2022 with Pastor Clint Brouhard officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
