Nettie Jacobs

Mrs. Nettie Lee Chavis Jacobs, 74, died on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Nettie was born in Scotland County on March 17, 1943, to Milton Chavis and Alice Spaulding. She was a soldier for Salvation Army for 17 years, participated in jail ministry, was a member of Mt. Carmel Church of the Living God, taught Sunday school, and was a Corp Cadet Counselor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Grant (Tammy); one grandson, Max Fitzgerald Grant; one sister, Lettie Mae Chavis; two brothers, Ronald Marshall and David Earl Chavis; two step-brothers, James Oxendine, Bill Oxendine, and Sanford Oxendine; step-sister, Ada Mae Locklear; and step-father, Early Oxendine. Surviving are her husband, Gilbert Allen Jacobs; two sons, Billy Grant (Carol) and Jamie Fitzgerald Grant (Kandis); two sisters, Rose Ellen Oxendine and Vivian Ann Miller (Julius); three brothers, James Ellis Chavis, Thomas Calvin Chavis (Lizzie), and Milton Chavis, Jr. (Lillie); three step-sisters, Mary Lois Bull, Jeannett Sheppard, and Gladys Lee Locklear; two step-brothers, Rev. Nathan Oxendine and Rev. Rosco Oxendine; and five grandchildren, Chad Cleveland, Mitchell Grant, Jamie Daniel, Andrew Milton, and Brandi Marie Grant. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, December 1, 2017, at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Maxton, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00pm on December 1, 2017, at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Carmel Church of the Living God.
