Mr. Nelson Harry Wilson, 77, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 22, 2024, at his residence. He was born on May 24, 1947, in Hudson County, NJ, to Nelson Francis and Ada Lane Wilson. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served during the Vietnam War. Nelson retired after over 20 years from EPL, Inc as a Toxicologist. He was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church where he previously served as Sunday School Superintendent. Nelson was an active member of the United Methodist Men’s Club as well as the Choir. He loved classic and British cars and previously served as President for both the Old Salem Chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America and The MG Car Club Washington DC Centre. When his boys were younger, he enjoyed coaching them in baseball, football, and basketball. Nelson loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
Nelson was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sally Wilson; two sons, Tim Wilson and Dan Wilson (wife, Stacy); four stepchildren, Andy Tingue (wife, Shannon), Robin Redding (husband, Chester), Scott Appelfeller, and Eric Appelfeller (wife, Sadie); nine grandchildren, Leo Wilson, McKenna Wilson, Benjamin Tingue, Patricia Tingue, Cayla Kennedy (husband, Jason), Haley Edwards (husband, Chase), Hunter Weavil, Austin Redding, and Lyra Appelfeller; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Carol Schwartz; two nieces, Jaime and Lindsey Schwartz; many special cousins; and his dog, Riley, who was like a child to him.
A Celebration of Life service for Nelson will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 29, 2024, at Pisgah United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Adams officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 10:45 am prior to the service at the church as well as following the service in the fellowship hall where all are invited to join the family for lunch.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Nelson’s memory may be made to Pisgah United Methodist Church at 2165 Pisgah Church Road, Kernersville, NC 27284; Trellis Supportive Care at 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 & trellissupport.org; or a charity of your choice.
