Nellie Childress Smith

Mrs. Nellie Childress Smith, 86, passed away on Dec. 18, 2015 at Yadkin Nursing Care. She was born on Dec. 7, 1929 to Joseph Childress and Mary Ida Stanley Childress in Yadkin County. Nellie was employed by AT&T/Lucent Technologies where she earned the distinction of Pioneer and retired with 34 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.A. Smith, Jr. Surviving are her two sons, Randy D. Walker (Dottie) and Jimmy Walker; as well as grandchildren; great grandchildren; and a sister, Agnes Ham. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Mon., Dec. 21, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Benny Sprouse officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
