Mrs. Nellie “MaMaw” Charles Phillips, 99, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2022 at Trinity Glen.  She was born in Guilford County on January 11, 1923 to the late Erastus and Cora Christopher Charles.  Mrs. Phillips was a member of Waughtown Baptist Church for many years.  She worked as a florist and retired from Sherwood Flower Shop.  She loved sewing, cooking, shopping and was avid cake baker.  Mrs. Phillips was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  Preceding her in death was her husband, Henry Phillips; son, Larry Phillips; grandson, Neil Pettus; two sisters and seven brothers.  Surviving is a daughter, Sue Reeves (Jerry); five grandchildren, Jeff Phillips (Diana), Jody Phillips (Jamie), Dawn Mitchell (Lewis), Brian Pettus, and Amie Walls (Troy); ten great-grandchildren; special niece and shopping buddy, Delores Merritt; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.  A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Waughtown Baptist Church with Preacher Eddie Brackett officiating.  Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Waughtown Baptist Church, 1538 Waughtown St. Winston-Salem, NC 27107 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
