Nellie "La" Lavetta Craft

On June 5, 2023, Nellie Lavetta Craft passed away peacefully at 94 years old.  “La”, as she preferred to be called, was wife to Edwin Craft for 71 years and mother to Carmen Long and Edwin Craft, Jr.  She also was grandmother to nine grandchildren and great-grandmother to nine great-grandchildren with two more on the way.  La was always a very active member of her church and one could find her either singing in the choir or sitting in the pews surrounded by family.  Quilting was not only a hobby but a way she showed her love to those who were fortunate enough to receive one of her blankets.  She grew up in the area and would often recall stories of her childhood of walking alongside her father’s truck with her sisters selling produce in the different neighborhoods.  La was definitely the matriarch of her family (and friends) and would host dinners and gatherings at her house on many occasions.  La always made sure everyone felt welcome in her home.  She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and treasured friend.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Harmony Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Greg Freeman and Rev. Randy Perdue officiating.  The burial will follow in the church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harmony Grove United Methodist Church, 5041 Styers Ferry Rd. Lewisville, NC 27023 or to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
