Nell Caroline Long Scott, 100, slipped peacefully into the arms of her Lord on Wednesday evening December 20, 2017 at Bermuda Commons in Advance, NC. She was born in Forsyth County, Clemmons, on January 29, 1917 to the late Charles Walter Long and Sallie Wood Long. Nell was a longtime member of Jonestown Baptist Church and she retired from RJ Reynolds with 32 years of service. Nell was a strong and independent woman. She loved cooking, gardening, and sewing. In her later years, she got immense joy from babysitting her great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a great-grandson Ryan Wood; a brother Frank Long Sr.; sister in law Edna Long; and niece Becki Day. Nell is survived by daughter Katie Sutcliffe and husband Raymond, Jr.; grandson Ray Sutcliffe III and wife Lisa; granddaughter Caroline Wood and husband Randy; three great grandchildren Sydney and Ashley Sutcliffe and Maggie Wood all of Winston-Salem; and two nephews Larry Long and wife Nancy and Frank Long, Jr., and wife Ann. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday December 22, 2017 at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Kids of Childhood Cancer, PO box 195, Kernersville, NC, 27285, kidsofchildhoodcancer.org or the V Foundation for Cancer Research, 14600 Weston Parkway, Cary, NC, 27513, www.jimmyv.org. The family would like to express much appreciation to the staff of Bermuda Commons and Liberty Hospice for their exceptional care and kindness to our "Granny".
