Nel Uittenbogaard

Neeltje “Nel” Uittenbogaard, our beloved mother, grandmother and sister went to be with her heavenly father on December 31, 2022 after a long battle with Alzheimers.  While the last few years were difficult, she never stopped loving her children and grandchildren. She was born February 3, 1942 in Reeuwijk, the Netherlands to the late Pieter Slappendel and Dirkje De Gans Slappendel.  She grew up in the Netherlands where she met her husband Jaap.  Both her children were born in the Netherlands and the family moved to the US in 1983.  She missed her home country a lot but made a beautiful new home in Winston-Salem.  Nel loved being with family and friends, she loved cooking and doing lots and lots of puzzles.  If she didn’t have a book in her hand, she was doing a crossword puzzle or cooking a feast for whoever was visiting.  She traveled extensively throughout her life, but her favorite place was home with her family.  She spent many hours listening to classical and gospel music. She is preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother, Dirk Slappendel.  She is survived by her Son, Pieter Uittenbogaard (wife Isabel, daughter Raquel) her daughter, Jolanda Fiedler (husband Martin, daughters Bianca and Taylor) one sister, Tiny van Leeuwen of the Netherlands (daughter and grandchild) three brother’s, Nico Slappendel (wife Carla and children and grandchildren) and Piet Slappendel of the Netherlands (wife Hennie and son and grandchild) and Jan Slappendel of the Netherlands (wife Lia and children and grandchildren).  A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  The family is so thankful for the amazing care and love extended to Nel by the fantastic staff of Brookdale Memory Care (Peace Haven) where she lived the last two years of her life and wishes to thank the wonderful warm and caring staff of Trellis Hospice Care of Winston-Salem.   In lieu of flowers, the family ask you make a donation to Trellis Supportive Care in Winston-Salem, NC.  Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
