Mr. Nathaniel “Nat” T. Toney, 83, of Clemmons, NC, passed away on April 19, 2024, at his home. He was born in Winston Salem, North Carolina, on April 19, 1941, the first son born to the late Hiawatha and Vivian Toney.
Nat grew up around his cousins, aunts and uncles and loved them dearly. In his later years, he filled his homes with pictures of them and his friends, along with other relatives, military generals and presidents. He was also a member of the Masonic New Light Lodge #242, in which he was very proud of.
He was married to Concordia, and they bore into this world one daughter, Dawn D. Tindal, whom he loved dearly. Dawn went on to birth his grandson, Nathaniel Andrew, in whom he took great pride.
Nat went to the military at an early age where he would earn the rank of Sergeant Major, and ended up serving over thirty-three years before retiring and settling down in Maryland. He then remarried to Anna, with daughters, Cheryl and Tina.
He later moved to Las Vegas, then to North Carolina. He lived with Richard (military buddy) and wife, Judy, before moving to Clemmons with his dog Natasha.
Nat battled with cancer many years ago and it unfortunately returned not long before his passing. He was fighting and dealing with it HIS way.
He enjoyed homemade grits, okra, peach cobbler, rolls and of course his, Dr. Pepper soda. He enjoyed going out to restaurants, and a few other local eateries. One of his favorites was Tin Tin. He worshiped every Sunday with several TV ministers, feeling each one had something special to offer.
Nat had a big heart and was very caring, even to strangers. He was always trying to take care of people, reaching out to give them whatever he thought could help them, or what he thought they needed. He also donated frequently to many charities.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria; brother, Hiawatha (Cynthia); and his dog and best friend, Natasha. He leaves behind his daughter, Dawn; grandson, Nathaniel Andrew; sisters, Nadine (Michael) and Donna; brother, Warren (Erika); and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on October 10, 2024, at 1:00PM at Arlington National Cemetery will full military honors.
