Nancy Anderson Thomas

Nancy Anderson Thomas was born in Gibsonville, NC on Nov 29, 1929 to William Earnest and Myrtle Goodman Anderson. She met, fell in love and later married Ralph Leon Thomas also from Gibsonville on Sept 4th, 1949 and spent 63 wonderful years together until Ralph's passing in 2012. Nancy was a woman of beauty, grace and kindness. She showed love to all she met and served her family, job, church and community with hard work, loyalty, love and compassion. She held almost every job imaginable at her church, Wesley Memorial Methodist and was PTA president at almost every school her children attended.

Nancy and Ralph moved to Winston Salem in 1964 when Nancy accepted a position as secretary to the federal judge. Judge Eugene Gordon. They resided here for the rest of their lives. When Judge Gordon was made senior judge and was moved to Greensboro, Nancy followed him and remained his friend, employee and office manager until they both retired in the early 1990's. Nancy loved her job, her friend and boss, "the judge " and all her law clerks that she guided, raised and loved thru their clerking years to prepare them for their future as lawyers. She called them "her Boys" and she loved them just like they were her own (she did have one woman clerk, Mary that she loved just the same). Her years with the Judge were some of the happiest of her life and many of her dearest friends were formed in the workplace and continued for many years after.

Nancy loved her family and with Ralph by her side, raised a son. Bill and daughter, Lisa and later enjoyed the experience of being a grandmother to 4 beautiful grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was also blessed with a wonderful son-in-law, Butch and daughter-in-law, Cynthia and welcomed them into the family with open arms and an accepting heart. She loved them like her own. Family was always so important to her and she put each of them first in her life. She proudly celebrated each of their accomplishments, no matter how big or small and was first to brag on them to others.

In 1989, Ralph and Nancy built a beach home at Oak Island NC and enjoyed many years of wonderful memories with family and friends as they shared their home with many. It was their "home away from home" and it would not only be the perfect getaway for them but would be loved and enjoyed by their family as well.

Nancy was a very special lady who was loved by all who knew her. She was hard working, humble, kind, generous, and a true friend. She was a true Christian and loved her Lord with all her heart and thru that relationship found peace even during the trying times of her life. She will be missed by many and she set an example for all who knew her. The world was a better place because she was in It.

Nancy spent the last 14 months of her life in Batangas Gardens, the skilled nursing facility of Bermuda Village. Though her body had begun to fail her in her ability to care for herself, she still showed kindness and grace to all her caregivers and in return was loved by them. When she started receiving assistance from the Davie Co Trellis team, she made many new friends that she came to love and that loved her. They made the last months of her life much more pleasant and fulfilled and for that the family is truly grateful.

Nancy is preceded in death by her mother and father, brother and husband. She leaves behind her son William Ralph Thomas (Bill) and wife Cynthia, daughter Lisa Thomas Hooks and husband Charles (butch) and grandchildren Thomas Hooks and wife Breanna, Cory Hooks and wife Heather, Wesley Thomas and wife Cassie and Grace Thomas, and 4 great-grandchildren Kali, Addilyn and Brody Hooks and Nolan Hooks.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bermuda village for loving and caring for Nancy and the rest of the family while she was a patient there. They truly became family. Your compassion and love was evident and so greatly appreciated.

We would also like to thank all of the team at Trellis of Davie County for all the visits, phone calls, personal care, love and support that Nancy and the whole family received under your care. Your compassion and love has made this journey one that was filled with love, dignity and grace. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You are truly angels on earth.
