Nancy Thiel

Nancy Brierley Thiel went home to be with her Lord under Hospice care at Abbotswood, Greensboro, NC on May 26, 2020.  She died of complications due to “old age.”  Nancy was born on October 30, 1924 to George J. and Effie P. Brierley of Kearny, NJ.  She graduated Kearny High and went on to receive an Associates degree and recognition for outstanding community service from Centenary College, Hackettstown, NJ in 1944.  She married her high school sweetheart and Navy Ensign, Robert Besant Thiel in June of 1946.  Relocating to Westfield, NJ, Nancy and Bob raised four children and continued their love for golf as members of Rock Spring Club, West Orange, NJ (Nancy winning the women’s 9-hole championship one season).  With their children grown, Nancy and Bob became avid world travelers visiting over 18 countries, (at age 75 Nancy bungee jumped off a 120 ft. bridge in New Zealand) as well as, most of the United States.  And retiring to the Landings at Skidaway Island near Savannah, GA. where they continued their golf and love for entertaining and playing bridge.  Nancy spent many years serving the community- PTA president, Westfield Service League president, heading up welcoming committees at Skidaway and ultimately at Bermuda Village.  Additionally, she modeled for the Bambergers Department store, Newark, NJ from 1945 to 1957.  Nancy was always known for her kind words, gracious way along with her captivating smile.  You could just see her smile and say, “Don’t get old!”.  She was a feisty mom who was loved and loved well!  Nancy and Bob lived their remaining years at Bermuda Village retirement community, Bermuda Run, NC in 2000.  Bob passing in 2003.  Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and husband as well as her only sister, Carole Edholm and grandson Parker Thiel.  Those remaining to cherish her memory are her sons, George Jeffrey Thiel (Donna) Greensboro, NC, Robert B. Thiel Jr. (Kathleen) Woodland, CA, Richard W. Thiel (Marcia) Norcross, GA; her daughter, Nancy R. Perish (Silvio) Sonoma, CA; grandchildren, Trenton Thiel, Carter Thiel, Wade Thiel and Erin Thiel; great grandchildren, Jameson and Taylor Thiel and of course, her many, many, friends and acquaintances who will miss her.  Due to current social guidelines, the family is planning a celebration of life service to be held at a later date.  Online condolences may be made to www.hayworth-miller.com.  Donations in Nancy’s memory may be made to Authoracare (formerly Hospice of Greensboro), 2500 Summit Ave. Greensboro, NC  27405 or to the Greensboro Urban Ministry, 305 W.
