Nancy Spencer Plunkett, age 85, of Rural Hall passed away peacefully at Forsyth Medical Center on Thursday, June 19, 2014. Mrs. Plunkett was born in Stokes County on November 12, 1928 to the late John Lee and Lola Hawkins Spencer. She graduated from Germanton High School and Draughn's Business College. She was employed with Hanes-Sara Lee Corp., retiring as a Senior Buyer after 43 years of service. Mrs. Plunkett was a faithful member of Kingswood United Church in Rural Hall, attending while her health allowed. She enjoyed attending many socials and dances held at the Piedmont Club over the years.
Mrs. Plunkett was married to the late William Paul ""Booney"" Plunkett, Jr. for 41 years. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia S. Townsend and Phyllis S. Young. Surviving is her only son, Ricky Spencer Plunkett (wife, Brenda Scott Plunkett) of Rural Hall; and her only grandson who was her pride and joy, Scott Spencer Plunkett (wife, Lindsey Raborn Plunkett) of Concord. Also surviving are two brothers, Jasper Spencer, Sr. (Shelby) and Johnny Spencer (Jan); brother-in-law, Sam Townsend, all of Walnut Cove; along with several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 21 at Kingswood United Methodist Church in Rural Hall with the Rev. R. Sidney Lanier officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Kingswood United Methodist Church, PO Box 399, Rural Hall, NC 27045.
The family is appreciative of the care and support received from her caretakers for many years, Robbie Brown and Liz Heck of King.
