JAMES - WINSTON-SALEM ""I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, and I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 Nancy Tilley James, age 73, the greatest mom ever, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Forsyth Medical Center on Friday, November 25, 2011. Nancy was born on January 21, 1938 in Stokes County to the late Harriet & Roscoe Tilley. On July 8, 1955 Nancy married David Curtis James, in Conway, SC. Nancy retired from Hanes Hosiery after 44 years of dedicated service. Nancy enjoyed working in her flowers, taking care of her home, and watching her grandchildren's sporting events. She was devoted to her family and was of the Baptist faith. Nancy suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis for nearly forty years and yet never let it get her down. She had battled 2 forms of cancer, survived almost 20 surgeries and yet continued to be courageous and not give up till the very end. In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Lee; and a son, Ricky Lane. Nancy is survived by the love of her life, her husband David, even after 56 years of marriage their love was as strong as ever. She is also survived by a daughter, Chris (Jeff) Hinkle of Lewisville; a son, Michael James of Pfafftown; three grandchildren, Trey (Candace) Phelps, Brooke and Logan James; one great-grandchild, Payton Glenn; sister, Sophie (T.L.) White of Stanleyville; brother, Gordon (Jan) Tilley of King; also several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, November 27 at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall with Dr. Cecil Cave officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, November 26 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, P.O. Box 96280, Washington, D.C. 20078-7491 or the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407-2145.
