Nancy Phelps Hartman

Mrs. Nancy Phelps Hartman, 83, passed away on Saturday November 16, 2024, at Brighton Gardens. She was born on November 18, 1940, to the late George Abington Phelps and Edna Bridges Phelps in Forsyth County, NC.  Nancy graduated from James A. Gray High School in Winston-Salem, NC. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. She continued her education and completed her Master of Education degree at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. Nancy worked as an Extension Home Economics Agent for the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service in Davie County for 32 years, serving 4-H youth and homemakers.  She was a member of Mocks Church in Advance, NC. She was a Sunday school teacher, a choir member, a member of United Methodist Women’s group. She even wrote a mini history of the church titled “The Little White Church”.  Nancy was very involved in her community, she was a member of many groups, including the State Employees of North Carolina; North Carolina Retired government Employees; National Association of Retired Federal Employees; and the National and State Association of Extension Family and Consumer Educators. She served as president of the state Agent’s Association where she received the Distinguished Service Award and served on many national committees.  In her spare time, Nancy enjoyed basketmaking, needlecraft, reading, and playing the piano. She is preceded in death by her husband, George Garwood Hartman. Surviving are one sister, Sherley Phelps; one brother, Ronnie G. Phelps (Linda) and one step-daughter, Susan Tucker and three step grandchildren, Teresa Smithson, Hollie Tucker and Michael Tucker.  

A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Mocks Church cemetery with Pastor Roger Rayburn officiating. In lieu of flowers donate to the Charity of your choice.
