Nancy Norrell Ashe

Nancy Norrell Ashe, 85, of Winston-Salem, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2016. She was born August 26, 1930 to James Louis and Nina Rochelle Norrell. Nancy married James Ashe, Jr. on July 16, 1954 who preceded her in death in July 2010. Nancy grew up and lived her life in the Ardmore community of Winston-Salem. She graduated from college with an associate degree and enjoyed a long career as an Executive Secretary at R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company for over 40 years retiring in 1987. Nancy is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, James R. and Peggy Norrell; Denise R. Norrell, ""my niece Denise"" as she would always say; her nephew Michael D. Norrell (Debra); great nieces and nephew Patricia Norrell(Curtis) and her children Cain and Brynn Black, Amber Cranfill and her son Dominic Moyer, Kayla Norrell Marra (Matthew), and Adam Norrell (Bailey). Although Nancy had no children, she loved all of her nieces and nephews as if we were her own. Nancy was a very organized woman and documented everything, mostly in shorthand, to take notes and track all the activities and events in life. She enjoyed researching and sharing the genealogy of our family tree. Nancy and her mother, ""grandmother"" as we called her, hosted many Christmas Eve dinners that were a family tradition for Jimmy, Peggy, Denise and Michael. During those years Nancy would always take the annual Christmas photo around the tree. Later in life she enjoyed family meals and gatherings at her niece's house. Nancy was always an animal lover, especially for cats, having had numerous pets from a very young age. After Jim's death Nancy adopted two kitty sisters that she affectionately named Trissy and Sissy. Until the last six months, Nancy was active and able to participate in the activities at Homestead Hills where she especially enjoyed the music events. Our family is very thankful for the loving staff and caregivers at Homestead Hills for their love and care of Nancy. A graveside service will be held on Sunday March 13th at 2pm at Forsyth Memorial Park. Memorials may be made in her memory to Animal Adoption Rescue Foundation (AARF) or the Winston-Salem Humane Society.
