Myrtle Swaringen Durham

Mrs. Myrtle Swaringen Durham 86, of East Bend, NC passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013. Mrs. Durham was born February 14, 1927 in Wilkes County, NC to the late D.B. Swaringen.Sr., and Betty Bryan Swaringen. Myrtle was raised on the Swaringen Dairy Farm, located in the Traphill Community of Wilkes County. She was educated at Trap Hill High School, Mars Hill College and Appalachian State University. She was a Home Economics Teacher at East Bend, High School. She then joined her late husband, E.J. Durham Senior in a career of Real Estate and Building Homes for 27 years. Upon retirement, family and grandchildren became her focus. Myrtle was a dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church of W-S. She loved her Sunday School Class and always spoke highly of each member. She was a former board member and active in the Christian Women's Club Luncheon that met in Bermuda Run for many years. In addition to her parents, Myrtle was preceded in death by two brothers; Sam and Robert Swaringen and two sisters, Greta S. Doss and Bonnie S. Hines. Surviving to cherish her memory are brother, D. B. Swaringen, Jr., two daughters; Pat Durham Ingram and husband, Ron G. of Florida, her primary care giver, Mary Ann Durham Casey of East Bend, NC, four grandchildren; Chris S. Willard, Bradley S. Williard, Heather O'Sullivan, Shanna Ann O'Sullivan; a great grandchildren; Ben, Megan and Jacob Williard, and Kaylynn Brown. Myrtle cherished the love and support of all her nieces and nephews; close to her heart, she held Susan and Dwight Snow, the deceased Karen and David Stahl, David Doss and Turschmann. The Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel officiated by Rev. Gary Byrum. The Family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm prior to the service. A Graveside Service will follow in the Forsyth Memorial Park.
