Myrtle Whicker Ballard

KERNERSVILLE - Myrtle Whicker Ballard, 92, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at her home. She was born August 13, 1917 in Forsyth Co. to the late Baxter Sherman and Ella Weavil Whicker. Myrtle was a member of Sedge Garden United Methodist Church; she also was a member of the Methodist Women, Loyal Wesley Sunday school class, and Adult Fellowship. Myrtle offered her time as a volunteer at Bradford Village East and West. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Odell Ballard. Surviving are two daughters, Patti Smothers and husband Nick of Winston Salem, Kay Brown and husband William of Clemmons; one son, Kenneth Ballard and wife Barbara of Winston Salem; one sister, Betty Goode; ten grandchildren, Chip Brinegar (Julie Suitts), Robin Jarvis (Roger), Cherie Rudd (Gary), Scott Smothers (Kathleen), Barbie McLean (Brian), Matt Hill (Kim), Crystal Ballard, Kara Ballard, Ronnie Brown (Kathy), and Lynn Transou (Joe); eight great-grandchildren, Justin Brinegar (Rachel), Michael Brinegar, Jessica Smith, Tyler McLean, Nickolas McLean, Ryan Smothers, Kirsten Smothers, and Michael Suitts. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church with Pastor Patricia Lewis, Pastor Phil Bauguess, and Pastor Mike Goode officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. Memorials may be made to Sedge Garden United Methodist Church, 794 Sedge Garden Rd., Kernersville, NC 27284 or Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103.
