KERNERSVILLE – Myrtis Motsinger Holder, 93, passed away peacefully Monday, November 18, 2024 in her home surrounded by her four children. Myrtis was born on August 26, 1931 in Forsyth County to Boyd and Ethel Chappell Motsinger.
Myrtis was a dedicated member of Sedge Garden UMC. She was giving of her time through service to the United Methodist Women, Boy Scouts, and Stitches of Love. Myrtis and Wilson joined the Walker Sunday School Class as a young married couple and cherished the lifelong friendships they formed. Myrtis began work at General Supply Co. the day after graduation from Sedge Garden High School. She also loved working at Dize Awning, Sedge Garden UMC as secretary, and retired after 20 years as registrar at East Forsyth High School. Myrtis was a Christian, hard worker, loving, kind, and the perfect combination of sweet and sassy.
Myrtis enjoyed sunny days on the deck, time at the lake, and taking care of her yard. First and foremost, she valued the quality time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be cherished forever.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 40 years, Wilson Holder; her parents; and her brother, James Motsinger.
She leaves behind her four children: Sherry (Tom) Riley of Kernersville, Andy Holder of Kernersville, Becky (Jim) Karr of Troutman, and Tracy (Charlie) Kearns of Kernersville. Five grandchildren: Megan (Dan) Gauss of Raleigh, Jon (Ashley) Riley of Raleigh, Drew (Lauren) Karr of Lexington, Travis (Abbi) Karr of Charlotte, and Lucas Kearns of Kernersville; two great grandchildren, Ben and Riley. Myrtis was loved by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
To celebrate Myrtis’ life, a funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church with Pastor Keith Edwards officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside committal in the Church Fellowship Hall.

Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
