Myra K. Slate

Mrs. Myra K. ""Suzie"" Slate, of Clemmons passed from the loving fellowship of her family to the presence of her Lord on Wednesday, August 10, 2011. Suzie was born in Granite Falls to the late Marion and Lola Killian. She attended college at UNC-G and Brevard College. She taught at elementary schools as well as at high school and college levels. She enjoyed teaching young minds and shaping lives. Suzie was a devout member of the church, most recently a member of Clemmons United Methodist Church. She was strong in her faith and walked closely with the Lord. Suzie enjoyed reading her western novels, traveling and teaching ""home ec"" skills to several generations of young women. Her most cherished times were those she spent with her family. Suzie is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Ken and Jean Slate of Los Angeles, CA and two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Mike Yarbrough of Walnut Cove and Linda and Richard Teeter of Concord. Her family was blessed and enriched with eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A funeral to celebrate her life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Clemmons United Methodist Church with Rev. Marcus Portis officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
