Myra Marie McCall of 2235 Venus Rd, Kernersville, NC (previously of Tarboro, NC) slipped quietly away in the early morning hours of June 25th, 2024. She was born to Miles Olen and Belva Jean McCall of Lake Toxaway, NC on March 5th, 1950.
Myra lived a full life. She retired early from Carolina Telephone where she was the first woman in the Kernersville office to work as a business telephone installer and repairman. She spent her retirement offering peace and relaxation to her clients as a massage therapist in Tarboro. Her last work experience was with V.O.I.C.E. There, her tireless efforts to recruit volunteers and procure grant funding contributed to its significant growth. This benefited many individuals who suffered from lack of transportation.
Her generous heart and enjoyment of maintaining an active life resulted in participation in many volunteer opportunities including: Challenges, the Carolina Emergency Response Massage Team, Hospice, Relay for Life, the Tarboro Memory Walk, and the Pilot Club. This is likely not an exhaustive list of her volunteer work. She was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Beyond her work and volunteer experiences, Myra enjoyed gardening, creating beautiful stained-glass pieces, and multiple other artistic endeavors. She played the guitar and harmonica, and in her younger years she enjoyed riding motorcycles and dirt bikes as well as sailing. Her sweet nature led her to welcome many lost dogs and cats into her home. She also loved snakes and proudly hosted writing spiders on her front porch year after year.
She was simultaneously a person of driving passion and gentle humility. Her beautiful and fearless independent spirit will be missed most by her greatest loves, her family and friends (who she considered her chosen family).
Myra is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Eddy Walker; her grandchildren Peyton Riddle, Jacob and Ann Marie Walker; her brother and sister-in-law, Miles and Jane McCall; her sister and brother-in-law, Kris and Tim Stephens; her nieces Jamie Stephens-Lynch and Jenny Stephens; her nephews Josh and Lacey Walthall, and her dear friend Scott Williamson. She is preceded in death by her parents and her nephew Matt Walthall.
Per her request, a celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 13th, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Tarboro, NC. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Myra’s memory to: Hospice of the Piedmont or Edgecombe County Animal Shelter. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
