Winston Salem - Ovella Florence Williard at 100 years old, of the Union Cross Community, raised her arms to greet her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July16th at her home. Born in a log cabin on January 4, 1911 in Forsyth County, she was a daughter of the late Isaac Cornelius Williard and Lonida Maybelle Weavil Williard. She is survived by her sister Elva Macey Mae Williard with whom she made her home. Preceding her in death were her Sisters Lizzie Comer, Mary Smith, Sally Sisk and brother, Neal Williard. Also, two nephews, Dale Comer and Roy Smith. She is survived by nephews: James Comer and his wife, Imogene , Bobby Smith and his wife, Betty , Ronnie Sisk and his wife, Linda and Gary Smith; nieces: Linda Brater and her husband, Bill , Diane Gerrey and her husband, Ted , Pamela Delgado and her husband, Frank , Martha Lawson and two beloved niece-in-laws, Joan Comer-Grant and Jackie Smith. Also surviving are 18 great and 22 great great nieces and nephews. Aunt Ovella lived in the Union Cross community her entire life and as a child helped her parents and other family members on the family farm. While well known as an accomplished cook, she also worked for more than 30 years as a head seamstress, traveling and teaching many to sew at Hanes Knitting Mill. She and her sister, Elva, were custodians at Union Cross Moravian Church for approximately 34 years, where she was a member for over 80 years. Very active in her church, she was a Head Diener, taught Sunday School, and sang in the choir. Her real life calling was that of a caregiver. She spent many of her years caring for her mother, brother and sisters. She helped raise her nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a great-great nephew. She will certainly be missed. Services celebrating Ovella's life will be conducted at 11:00AM Tuesday at the Union Cross Moravian Church with Rev. Donald W. Griffin officiating. She will lie in state at the church for thirty minutes prior to the service and burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends Monday evening at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home in Kernersville from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Condolences may be sent on line to the family to www.hayworth-miller.com.
