King - Shirley Brower Freeman, 81, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Universal Health Care in King after struggling for four years with Alzheimer/Dementia. Shirley was born June 13, 1935 to Rufus and Solovia V. Davis Brower. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, reading and singing gospel music. She loved her family which included grandchildren and great grandchildren, most of whom she helped raise and also her little dog, Bandit.
Shirley was well loved at the nursing home and sang gospel songs long after she could not remember the words. She had a sharp wit and did not mind telling you what she thought even if you could not understand what she was saying, but she could always say, ""I love you"" to her family. When the singing stopped several weeks ago, we knew that it would not be long before she went home to her greatest love, Jesus Christ.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, four sisters, her husband, Lonnie Freeman; and her beloved grandson, Xayden Scott.
She is survived by one sister, Mildred Keeling, as well as her daughter Regenna (Reggie) Greenleaf (Chip); two sons, Terry Scott, and Mark Scott, her stepdaughter Andrea Freeman Young (Rodney); five grandchildren, Christopher Bradshaw (Katie), Amanda Hullette (Jason), Leslie Tate (Steven), Haley Willard and John Willard III; and seven great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Saturday at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel prior to the service.
