Mrs. Lilia Antonia Claure Blanco

Mrs. Lilia Antonia Blanco, affectionately known by many, as ""Nanny and Mrs. ‘B"" of Winston-Salem, NC., passed away after a short illness on 11/25/13. Mrs. Blanco was born June 13, 1920 in Cochabamba, Bolivia, daughter of Juan Claure and Fidelia Villazon. She was a grand-grandniece of Eliodoro Villazon, who was President of Bolivia. Mrs. Blanco was a music teacher in Bolivia. Throughout her life, she enjoyed horseback riding, painting, gardening, and had a true love of playing the piano. Her favorite classical composer was Johan Strauss and her favorite flower was the Rose. Mrs. Blanco moved to the United States in 1973 and became an American Citizen in one of her proudest achievements. She had lived in many places throughout the United States, New York, Oklahoma, and Florida, but chose to call Winston-Salem, NC her home. To say ""Mrs. B"" was only a governess or Nanny would not paint a complete picture. She was another grandmother for all the children, she cared for. She kept strong bonds with these children, all the way through adulthood. She was there to wipe away young tears, to tuck them in when time for bed, to play games with them, possibly encouraging a love of music or art along the way. She never missed an opportunity to bake a special cake, attend basketball, soccer games, graduation, or wedding of one of these special children. She loved all of them with all she had to give and towards the end, these special children were all there for her, with a soft kiss, the gentle touch of hand and the gentle strumming of a guitar. She was preceded by her husband, Fidel Blanco, sisters, Teresa Gordillo, Elsa Gabrera, son-in-laws, Jeffrey King, Sr. of Winston-Salem, and Manfred Jordan of Florida. She is survived by daughters, Charo King of Winston-Salem, Teresa Fisher and husband, Samuel of Florida, son, Bernardo Blanco of Florida and daughter, Mirtha Lampe of Winston-Salem. She had 10 grandchildren, Percy Blanco and wife, Katherine of Virginia, Jeffrey King, Jr. and wife, Kelly, of Kernersville, Patrick King and wife, Stephanie of Raleigh, Karen Jordan, Kenneth Jordan and wife, Luisa and Garrett Blanco, all of Florida. She was great-grandmother to Elizabeth Blanco and Nicolas Blanco of Virginia. Mrs. Blanco had 4 sisters and 2 brothers, Fanny Lopez, Olga Claure, Carmen Lombadi, Martha Morales, Eduardo Claure and Freddy Claure of Bolivia, also many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Mrs. Blanco lived with her youngest daughter, Mirtha Lampe, who was her primary caretaker. Mirtha was a devoted daughter and felt privileged to act on the behalf of her siblings in the special role.
