Walkertown- Mrs. Jewell Whicker Stewart, 90, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at her home. She was born November 19, 1920 in Forsyth Co. to the late Christian Lewis and Arie Swain Whicker. Jewell joined Morris Chapel United Methodist Church in 1932 where she served as choir director and a member of the choir for 36 years, organist, church historian, teacher, church secretary, a member of the Wesley Circle and United Methodist Women. Jewell was affiliated with Meals on Wheels since its inception. She retired from the Winston Salem Forsyth County School system after many years of service, but most of all she enjoyed gardening. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Cecil James Stewart, Sr., one son C. James Stewart, Jr. , and three brothers Dewey, Harold and Gene Whicker Surviving are her daughter, Linda King and husband George of Walkertown; son, Terry W. Stewart and wife Robin of Kitty Hawk; four grand children, Christin-King Bailey and husband Barney of Mooresville; Jennifer and Christine King of Walkertown; Justin and Britton Stewart of Kitty Hawk one great grandchild Gray Bailey of Mooresville; two sisters in law, Collen Whicker of Walkertown; Magilene Dogett of Kernersville; a brother in law Edsel Cooke of Winston Salem; and many special nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Autrey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to Morris Chapel United Methodist Church building fund at 2715 Darrow Rd. Walkertown, NC 27051.
