Mrs. Freda Jean Atwood Copeland

Mrs. Freda Jean Atwood Copeland, 78, passed away at her daughter's home in Rougemont, NC on May 29, 2011. She was born in Ashe Co. on May 3, 1933 to the late Fred Atwood and Gladys Beverly Atwood. Mrs. Copeland enjoyed playing cards (Rook and Peanucle), solving word puzzles and Sudoku. She also enjoyed making candy and quilting for which she won a ribbon at the State Fair. Mrs. Copeland was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Tobaccoville where she attended as long as her health permitted. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Garland Isaac Copeland and a daughter-in-law, Joyce Long Marsh. Mrs. Copeland is survived by her daughter, Sue Copeland Upchurch and husband David of Rougemont, three sons, James Edward Marsh and wife Lisa of Alexandria, VA, Robert Glenn Copeland of Fairfax, VA and Mark Alan Copeland and wife Karen of Boulder, CO, six grandchildren, James Scott Marsh (Connie) of Macon, GA, Pamela Joyce Marsh of Macon, GA, Chase Walden Upchurch of Rougemont, Mark Daniel Upchurch of Rougemont, Jeanna Kaye Upchurch of Rougemont and Isaac Alan Copeland of Boulder, CO, three great-grandchildren, James Austin Marsh, Hannah Joyce Marsh and Joshua Blake Marsh, a beloved sister-in-law, Patty Atwood of State Road and best friend and cousin-in-law, Jewel Burnette of Jacksonville, NC. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 prior to the service at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
