Mrs. Bertie "Oneita" Carter Cranford, 76, of Clemmons, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born July 9, 1932 in Forsyth County to William Earl and Ethel Dull Carter. Mrs. Cranford was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church; Transportation Coordinator for Five Point Senior Citizens; a member and past president of the VFW Ladies Auxilliary. Nita enjoyed crocheting, playing Bingo, and traveling. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Surviving is her loving husband of 57 years, James Richard Cranford of the home; two sons, Danny E. Cranford and wife, Vickie of Winston-Salem, Gary L. Cranford and wife, Ann of Sharpsburg, GA; two daughters, Linda C. Stanley of Winston-Salem, Jan Rowan and husband, Michael of Panama City, FL; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rev. Cecil Carter and wife, Mary of Advance, and Thurmond Carter and wife, Juanita of Mt. Airy. A Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 24 at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Joe Collins and Chaplain A.G. Parker will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 4265 Ebert Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27127. A special thanks to her caregiver, Theresa Cranford.
