Kernersville - Mr. William Roger Cooke, 68, died peacefully with his loving family by his side, after a five week battle with lung cancer. He was born August 25, 1944 in Forsyth County as the proud son of the late William Russell and Margaret Dean Cooke. Roger was a graduate of Walkertown High School in 1962. He attended Forsyth Tech receiving a degree in welding. He enjoyed wood working and working on Habitat houses. He was a proud member of Pisgah United Methodist Church. He served on the administrative board and the United Methodist Men. Roger retired with 30 years of service with Vulcan Materials Co. Roger served for 40 years with Talley's Crossing and City View Fire Department. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 46 years, JoRene of the home, a wonderful son, Ryan and wife Kristal of Lexington, He adored his two precious grandchildren, Eden and Lane Cooke. Poppa loved you. He is also survived by his sister, Judy Abee and husband Robert of Raleigh and brother Donald Cooke and wife Brenda of Greensboro, and many special nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Pisgah United Methodist Church with Rev. Hagan McClellan Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Monday evening, August 12, 2013 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pisgah United Methodist Church at 2165 Pisgah Church Rd. Kernersville, NC 27284,or Hospice and Palliative Care Center at 101 Hospice Lane Winston Salem, NC 27103.
