Kernersville- Mr. Ronald Lee Richards, 77, passed away Friday, September 9, 2011 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Born in Washington D.C., on October 12, 1933 to Woodrow and Frances Shirley Richards, Ronald was a US Army Veteran serving over 30 plus years ranking as Chief Warrant Officer 4 and serving five months in Desert Shield/Storm in 1991, he worked for NCDOT for 30 plus years, and a member of the Myrtle Beach Elks Club, Kernersville Moose Lodge, Chair City Shrine Club in Thomasville, Oriental Shrine Club in Greensboro, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Life American Legion chapter 53-GSO, Amvets, Masonic Lodge 669 in Kernersville, Scottish Rite in Winston Salem, and the Oasis Shrine Temple in Charlotte, NC. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Kyle Richards and his loving step mother, Eva Richards. Surviving are; his former wife of 50 years, Lucille Gay Richards, one son, Kent and wife Paula of Oak Ridge, one daughter, Lynne Petticord of Kernersville, five grandchildren, Melissa Nicole Petticord, Taylor Brook Richards, Aaron Scott Petticord, Logan Renee' Richards, and Phillip, a sister, and Shirley Barham of Selma, NC. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 13, 2011 by Dr. Jeff Patterson at Main Street United Methodist Church in Kernersville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to Hospice and Palliative Care Center at 101 Hospice Lane Winston Salem, NC 27103.
