Aaron Defferding, 82 of Creekside Terrace in Winston Salem died Wednesday evening at KB Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Defferding was born December 24, 1925 in Appleton, WI to Cornelius and Esther Allender Defferding. He was a US Navy Veteran serving during WWII on the Battleship Mississippi in the South Pacific. After discharge he became a specialty baker, owning his bakery in WI. This experience led to developing new products for a company in NJ and later working as a sales/service technician in the Midwest and Eastern US. He was a member of the American Bakers Association for 46 years. Aaron was a ""precious"" friend to everyone, always finding the time to give unselfishly to others. He was an avid bridge player and often participated at The Shepherd's Center. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his faithful wife of 53 years, Harriet Hofman Defferding, a son Stephen Defferding, a granddaughter Rachel Winkle, and a brother Keith Defferding. He is survived by his loving family, a daughter, Mari Jo Winkle (and fiancé© Wayne Turner) of Lewisville; a son David (and wife Lenora) Defferding of Sebring, OH; eight grandchildren, Ellen (and husband Chad) McKinney (three great grandchildren, Ella Rose, Spencer and Connor McKinney); David (DJ) Defferding Jr., Daniel (and wife Mary) Defferding (great grandson Daniel Aaron Defferding Jr.); Andrew Defferding, Jeremiah Schinderwolf, Dawn Marie Schinderwolf, Sarah Shinderwolf, and Robert Wood. One brother, Ivan Defferding of Holland; three sisters, Joyel (and husband Owen) Boyce; Karene Lauer; Janice Defferding; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Defferding and Wynne Vanden Heuvel; two brothers-in-law, Bruce (and wife Cynthia) Hofman and Keith Hofman all of WI and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dear lady friend Mary B. Sparger with her loving family Janis and John Garner, Bonnie and Ben Plitt, Julie and Rodney Smith, and Brad Garner. And his two adoring surrogate daughters Marsha (and husband Bob) Dixon and Mona (and husband Jay) Dale. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, September 20th in the Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00 pm and request memorial contributions be made to Eagle's Nest Foundation, PO Box 5127, Winston Salem, NC 27113 or Hospice & Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Marion, WI. The family would like to thank our special friends and the staff at Creekside Terrace for their love and support. They also extend a deep appreciation to the nurses, staff and Dr. Terry Hess at Lewisville Medical Associates for their years of care and Dr. Copeland and the staff at Hospice for their support.
